For the trunk, I drew a rectangle that’s slightly angled on top to match the shape of the lines. Next, you’ll create the same shape, just slightly larger, below the first one.Ĭontinue the same pattern until you have 4-5 rows of these curved lines, each one larger than the one above it. Starting at the top, draw a curve that resembles a rounded sideways “v.” This is similar to how we started the last tree, but we don’t want a sharp point, and we want to pick up the marker before continuing. Once again, this tree is more of a suggestion of the tree shape than a solid image. When you are happy with the size of your tree, finish it off with a brown rectangle at the bottom for the trunk. Continue creating this zig zag line, letting each row be a little longer than the one above it. To create it, start at the top, and make a small sideways “v.” Then, go back in the opposite direction and make another. Rather than being a solid, colored-in shape, the suggestion of a tree is created by a line that goes back and forth, increasing in width from top to bottom. If you want your Christmas tree to have decorations, you can add a star on top, garland, ornaments, and anything else you like. For a realistic look, each triangle should be slightly larger than the one above it.Ĭolor in your triangles and add a tiny brown rectangle for the trunk. You can change the shape and appearance of the tree by choosing to overlap the triangles a lot or not much at all, as shown in the examples below. Just stack three triangles on top of each other to form the body of the tree. This is one of the most traditional looking ways to draw a pine tree, and if you can draw a triangle, you’ve got it made.

That's where the Good Housekeeping Institute comes in. How do couples know they're registering for quality items? “A gift is a gift and saying thank you for any thoughtful gift should be appreciated by the couple, even if it’s not on the registry,” says Moore. Sometimes, especially if it’s a close family member or friend who knows you and your future spouse well, getting a non-registry gift can be great, our experts say. How should couples handle off-registry gifts? “A modern alternative is including the registry information a separate invitation insert or directing guests to a wedding website for more information,” McGovern says. The wedding? Both experts said to skip writing it right on the invite, since it’s not thought to be proper etiquette. This depends on what events you’re throwing: For a shower, include the info on your invite. Where should couples put their registry details? Can you add a registry to an invitation? For example, a couple whose wedding website details their avid hiking adventures might give guests the idea to get the couple gift cards to stores like REI. "This conveys that you’d prefer gifts of cash or like-kind,” she says.įor her part, Moore doesn’t recommend asking for money or gift cards, but says including details of your story as a couple, such as hobbies and activities, to the wedding website can help inspire guests to buy a gift card or make a donation that supports those interests. “After that event, the registry is removed," she says. Is it okay for couples to ask for cash or gift cards instead of having a wedding registry?įor couples who prefer cash, McGovern recommends either skipping a registry or opting for a small one with items just for the shower or other pre-wedding event. “Many are asking for donations to their favorite charities in place of gifts.” For instance, one bride she worked with, who was a breast cancer survivor, asked for donations to the organization Susan G. Donations are also popular: “A lot of my couples are giving back in a big way,” says JoAnn Moore, a master wedding planner at JoAnn Moore Wedding, Design & Event Planning in Vail, Colorado and the Lake Tahoe area. Recently, McGovern has seen a trend towards registering for furniture and home goods, largely because of how much time we’ve spent at home during the pandemic. “Unless, of course, you’re known as the person with an extensive shoe collection, in which case, guests may know to get you that from the get-go,” she says. Her advice, though, is to stick with more tried-and-true options, whether that’s cookware, a statement rug or tableware and perhaps steer clear of super personal items, like sunglasses or shoes. So what should those items be? “We’ve seen it all - there are certainly couples that don't care if they put lingerie or gaming chairs on their registry,” McGovern says. “We try to help our couples register for a concise list of items that will serve their life well, in a range of price options for their guests.” What should couples put on their wedding registry? “We love a well-rounded wedding registry, and we highly encourage our couples to be intentional and thoughtful when it comes to registering for gifts for the celebration of their engagement or marriage,” says Ness McGovern, owner and designer of Ness McGovern Events & Design, based in Bergen County, New Jersey. If you’ve started to make a list of the best kitchen tools, bedding and linens, home necessities and other items to include on your wedding registry, and you're feeling slightly - or very - stumped, we get it: Figuring out what to add and what to skip can be pretty daunting, especially since the options can seem endless (and falling down a rabbit hole of reviews can often wind up being … not so fun). It’s also worth noting the instruction at the bottom of this page to set a static IP address for the device hosting AdGuard Home, in this case, my Raspberry Pi. Going through the setup, the settings on the initial page can be left as-is, this will allow you to be able to utilise AdGuard Home regardless of whether you use Ethernet or Wi-Fi, but you can limit it to a specific network connection if you wish. Pi-Hole which I mentioned earlier does let you be a little more hands-on with the configuration and network side of things, but I think the interface of AdGuard Home is more user friendly and pretty. I really like the user interface of AdGuard Home and we can see that immediately as we browse to the initial setup screen. As I’m doing configuration from my computer, I’ll be using the third IP address, but if you’re doing this all directly on your Raspberry Pi you can browse to. Within the terminal you’ll see some IP addresses to browse to in a web browser, this will allow us to finish the configuration. This command shouldn’t take long to run and will let you know when AdGuard Home has finished installing and is up and running. To get started open the terminal and enter the following command: curl -s -S -L | sh -s -v I’ll also be using SSH as this allows me to copy and paste any commands required for the tutorial as well as do any configuration directly from my computer over the network. This process should work on most Linux and Mac systems, I shall be using a Raspbian Lite installation on a Raspberry Pi 3 for this guide so I will be referring to the Raspberry Pi a few times during this guide. The process of getting up and running with AdGuard Home is pretty straightforward as an automated install script will do much of the heavy lifting that would otherwise need to be done with a manual installation. You may be thinking “well can’t I just run an ad blocker in my browser” and the answer is yes, but being able to do this at the DNS level across your whole network means that all your devices won’t see ads, even if they can’t run an ad blocker and you can free up system resources as you don’t need to run ad blocking software or apps on all of your devices individually.ĪdGuard Home isn’t the only type of software that does this, Pi-Hole is another option that I covered a few years ago but I also wanted to share AdGuard Home as I thought it is a handy piece of software that people may be able to benefit from. Aside from ad and tracker blocking, AdGuard Home also has other perks such as being able to block malicious websites and give parents control over devices connected to the network and what content is accessible. When it came time to do their own thing, Ou explains, it was family members’ love of hot pot and Korean barbecue - which they enjoyed a lot while traveling to New York and elsewhere - that Volcano founder Jason Shi thought would bring guests the best of both worlds. Test it out in a small bowl and build confidence before dousing the whole pot. The same sauce you create for dipping (I’m always heavy on the fresh garlic!) can be used in your soup. If you enjoy flavors like peanut or sesame in your ramen, for example, these can be employed here, giving the broth extra silkiness, weight and interest. Though its primary purpose is crafting condiments in which to dip your meats, there are gems here that can be combined to balance and/or enhance your broth, as well - things like oyster or hoisin sauce, sriracha or chili oil, fresh herbs, more. Even spice fans should be wary, tempering leafy bites with starchy complements such as noodles (udon, ramen and rice are among the options) to tamp down the fire.Īnother way of doing that lies in what a hot-pot pro pal of mine turned me on to: the sauce bar. Being a meat-forward sort of guy, he was enthused by the impressive slabs on the buffet and cracking to get started. We are all unique, so why shouldn’t the ways we de-stress and relax reflect that?Īs important as this knowledge is for adults, I find that it is even more important for children - and for parents and caregivers of children - to be aware of. Those things might be great examples of self-care for some people … but for others, the very thought of someone else putting hands on your body to give you a massage might make you break out in a cold sweat. Look up stock photos of self-care or “relaxation,” and you’ll see what I mean: You’ll find pictures of day spas and hot stone massages and salt scrubs. When we use terms like self-care, it is easy to assume that we all mean the same thing. This is how I view the IC - as a medicine point that speaks specifically to what type of self-care is most supportive to each of us. Being a couch potato in front of the television doesn’t do it for me, but hand me a book - especially one that makes me think - and I am in heaven. Personally, recognizing that my IC is in Gemini affirmed for me why reading, thinking, discussing ideas, and doing work with my hands are my preferred ways to relax and unwind. Viewing the IC in this manner creates one immediate condition that I think is very useful, both within and outside of astrology, which is the recognition and affirmation that people relax and recharge in very different ways. What I have found to be true, for me and for the large majority of clients that I work with, is that the IC is first and foremost a place in the chart that holds medicine for the individual, specifically the kind of medicine that best allows the person to unwind, relax, and revitalize themselves. So, when I first discovered the IC, I was interested in testing out the various possibilities on myself. My personal approach to astrology has always been: trial and error and see what works. In the Whole Sign house system, the IC can wind up in the 3rd, 4th, or even 5th or 6th houses - depending on conditions - and this is, in fact, one of the reasons that some prefer using Placidus houses rather than Whole Sign houses. In the Placidus house system (and other systems as well), the IC forms the cusp between the 3rd and 4th house and is often conflated with the qualities we tend to associate with the 4th house. Other astrological traditions associate the IC with several different themes, including parents (mothers or fathers), lineage, ancestors, the past, roots, or the external conditions of one’s childhood. In Hellenistic astrology, the IC was considered to be associated with the Underworld for a particular individual and sometimes understood to predict circumstances or themes around that person’s death. Different kinds of astrology emphasize different aspects of the natal chart, and this has certainly been the case with the IC. IC is an abbreviation for the Imum Coeli, also sometimes referred to as the Nadir, a Latin term that means “bottom of the sky,” and marks the point where the Sun was lowest under the horizon during the time of an individual’s birth. For all of us, the return to school now holds all of the usual questions: Will my children like their teachers? Will they have friends in their classes? Will they be OK? Plus the less usual questions: What are current infection rates? What does community transmission look like in my area? What are the school’s vaccine policies? This is Back to School 2021, so the need to be familiar with what can bring rest, relaxation, nourishment, and ease into our children’s lives (and our own!) is now felt more keenly than ever. For some, this autumn will mark the first return to face-to-face learning in more than 18 months. This is even more true now that many of us across the country are returning to school in a post–COVID landscape. The beginning of the academic year has always been met by a combination of excitement, nervousness, expectation, and anxiety. As I am preparing back-to-school backpacks and planning out lunches, there is one more critical piece of information that I am re-acquainting myself with: each of my children’s IC and its surrounding territory. I delight in the feel of those rubbery pink erasers and the careful selection of pencils (Blackwing only, thank you very much) driven by my ten-year-old. This year, as school begins, I am grateful that we have access to vaccines and don’t mind the need to get to the grocery store a little earlier than usual to make all of the needed purchases. Last year, I remember ordering everything - backpacks, lunch boxes, pencils, and erasers - as we prepared for school to start, not knowing whether it would be online, face to face, or a combination of both. The days are hot, and the land is dry, and school is about to begin. First published by the Mountain Astrologer, 2021 / Meaning: Peep got a tattoo of a ‘centipede’ inked on his left forearm. In addition to the emotional toll Peep’s passing has taken on him he also had a drug-induced heart attack last summer and has been trying to stay sober to manage its residual effects. Lil Tracy has had a difficult year since Lil Peep’s death. The scars from that fight, and its lack of resolution are still on Lil Tracy’s mind as we speak in his Brooklyn apartment one year and a day after Lil Peep’s death last November. The rift stemmed from tension between Tracy and Peep’s management and perceived slights from Peep himself. It was through producer and GBC affiliate Nedarb Nagrom that he connected with his most notable collaborator, the late Lil Peep, crafting a string of near-perfect songs together like “ White Tee,” and “ Witchblades.” The two were incredibly close, even calling themselves “twins,” up until their public falling out toward the end of Lil Peep’s life. Oversized vehicle parking is 40 per night per space. Find hourly or monthly parking from Boston to Chicago to San Francisco and more. Extra fees apply for parking past 12:00 PM on the departure date. LAZ Parking offers convenient, cheap parking garages throughout the US. I be going back there when I have another outing in Atlanta. Please park in the shared parking garage behind the hotel with in-and-out access until 12:00 PM on the departure date. The price was very reasonable, considering it is the middle of a major city. The food was varied and very well prepared. Free services for HRS guests at the Hotel Indigo ATLANTA MIDTOWN (Atlanta) : Use of an Internet terminal at the hotel free cancellation until 6 pm. The beds and furniture are new and very comfortable. The bathrooms are quite elegant (especially the shower which was quite large compared to typical European), and the room itself has all the modern amenities (WiFi, USB power outlets for charging). The rooms are small, but those who enjoy European hotels will enjoy the rooms. The hotel has been renovated, with a neat modern design for the lobby floor and restaurant (featuring images of information for shows presumably at the Fox Theater, which is just across the street), and shabby chic for the rooms. I stayed a night to attend a concert, and I had dinner and breakfast there. The bathrooms are extra small, but since it was just me in my room, it wasn’t a problem. The Hotel Indigo Midtown Atlanta is a great hotel. As expected in a historic hotel, the rooms are a little small, but they were very comfortable and very clean and had everything you would want. I can’t speak for any of the hotel amenities (bar, restaurant, etc.) because we didn’t use them. Every time we came in and out of the hotel we were greeted by a staff member. We arrived early in the day and we just stopped in at the front desk to see when our room would be ready, and not only did they help us check in early, they also gave us great restaurant recommendations and nicer rooms! We were blown away at the great customer service we received from Jamari at the front desk. Well, you can’t get much closer than right across the street! Parking in their garage was very easy and $29 seems very fair to me, especially given that we could come and go as we wanted.
